Local Transport To and From Kali Travel Home
We are well served with local transport from our home to key locations around Kolkata.
Calcutta and Presidency Universities are just 10 minutes away by tram.
The Ganges and ferry transport is 12 minutes away on an auto rickshaw.
A Metro train to Central, 5 minutes, to Esplanade, 10 minute and to Park St, 12 minutes.
Most of the major attraction in Kolkata are either within walking distance, a short ride away or just off the Metro which is close by.
Plus Uber, Ola and local taxis are very inexpensive.
The Metro System
Very easy to use. Just one line going north or south. We are just a 13 minutes walk away from two metro stations, Girish Park and Shovabazar.
The line is fast and clean and gets you to most popular places very quickly.
You can buy a token per ride or a smart card and top it up when you need to at any station.
Prices for most rides are from Rs 5 to Rs 10 and an average of 7 minutes wait between rides. Much quicker at busy times.
Trams
Like ancient dinosaurs they crunch there way around the city. A major route is just 2 minutes from our door. Great for getting to the universities, Indian Coffee House, or a slower ride into New Market or north to Shyambazar. Numbers 1,5 and 6 are the most useful.
Buses
On the same road buses ply all over the city. Catch a 34B to New Market or one to Sealdah station or anotherto Howrah station.
Auto Rickshaw
At the end of our small lane is Hedua Park and autos going to Rabindra Sarani and the River. Rabindra Sarani, 7 minutes away is one of the oldest streets in the city and surrounded with history including the Marble Palace and Tagore's family home. The river opens up the potters colony of Kumar Tolly and the ferries that ply the Hooghly (Ganga). Catch one and travel under the Howrah Bridge to Howrah Station and walk back to Kolkata across one of the great bridges of the world.
Taxis, Uber and Ola.
Taxis ply along Bidhan Sarani and a small taxi stand is just a few minutes away. Uber and Ola mean prices are set before you leave and contact is easy with wifi in the home.
